Everything you need to know about Kulay Materials Palette
Kulay Materials Palette was created by Matthew Tuquero, founder of Tuquero & Co., after years working in textile and multiline design showrooms cataloging materials and helping designers discover products. With a background in computer graphics and daily exposure to the design process, he built Kulay as a material discovery engine to help designers turn inspiration into curated material palettes connected to real products.
Kulay Materials Palette is a material discovery engine that helps designers turn inspiration into material palettes and discover products that match their vision. Upload a photo and Kulay builds a curated palette of real materials—rugs, tile, wood, paint, and finishes—connecting you directly with the makers and vendors behind each product.
Kulay Materials Palette is built for interior designers, decorators, architects, and anyone working on design projects who needs to discover and source materials. It's also great for homeowners tackling renovations or redesigns who want professional-level material discovery. Sales representatives and showroom professionals can use Kulay to get their product lines discovered by designers actively sourcing materials for projects.
Yes! Kulay Materials Palette is currently free during the beta period. We're focused on building the best possible experience and gathering feedback from our community.
Kulay Materials Palette is currently available on iOS via TestFlight. We're working on a full App Store release and exploring additional platforms based on user feedback.
Click the "Join the Beta" button on our homepage or visit our TestFlight page. You'll need an iOS device and the TestFlight app installed.
Kulay analyzes the colors and aesthetic qualities in your image, then uses our proprietary matching system to recommend materials from our curated database.
Kulay matches your image against our curated database of real products from real makers. The discovery goes beyond color—it considers texture, material type, and how different products work together to bring your vision to life.
Any image with clear colors works well—interior photos, artwork, textiles, landscapes, or architectural details. Images with good lighting and distinct color areas tend to produce the most accurate results. You can upload photos from your camera roll or take new ones directly in the app.
Yes! You can save material discoveries to your library and share them with clients or collaborators. Export options make it easy to include your finds in presentations and project boards.
Materials in Kulay come from our Featured Makers program—a curated network of small businesses, artisans, and quality vendors. Our discovery engine connects you with makers who create exceptional materials and prioritize craftsmanship.
Each product you discover includes vendor information and direct links to purchase or request samples. Kulay connects you directly with the makers—we don't handle transactions, ensuring you get the best service and pricing from the source.
Yes! We're always looking to partner with quality makers and vendors. If you create or sell materials for interior design projects, contact us to learn more about our Featured Makers program.
Kulay's discovery engine covers a wide range of materials including rugs, tile, wood flooring, stone slabs, textiles, hardware finishes, paint colors, and more. We're constantly expanding our material library based on user needs and new partnerships.
We're here to help! Email us at support@kulaypalette.com and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible. During the beta period, your feedback is especially valuable.
Color extraction works offline, but material discovery requires an internet connection to access our product database. Saved discoveries can be viewed offline once they've been created.
We take privacy seriously. Images you upload are processed securely and are only used to generate your palettes. We don't share your images or project data with third parties. Read our Privacy Policy for complete details.
